Chest Day Basics: Pressing, Flyes and Angles

Quick answer: A complete chest workout needs pressing movements at multiple angles (flat, incline, decline) to hit the full pec, plus flye or cable movements to isolate the stretch and contraction the pressing can't fully capture. Training only flat bench press builds a strong mid-chest but leaves the upper chest underdeveloped — a common gap that shows up as a flat look just below the collarbone.

Why Angle Matters More Than People Think

Your pectoralis major is one muscle, but the fiber direction shifts across the upper, middle and lower regions, meaning the angle of a press changes which portion gets emphasized.
